Art Against the Odds: Wisconsin Prison Art

Saturday, June 7th 1-2 PM

Art Against the Odds: Wisconsin Prison Art is a major, traveling, award-winning exhibition that originated in 2023. During its initial seven-week run at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, it drew 7,000 visitors. It subsequently travelled to the Rahr West Museum in Manitowoc and the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay. Curated by Portrait Society Gallery of Contemporary Art (Milwaukee), the exhibition includes 65 currently or formerly incarcerated artists and is accompanied by a 178 page book. Its next iteration will be at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh October 23 to November 25, 2025.

The Door County Contemporary will present a selection of the works as well as a lecture/conversation between curators Debra Brehmer and Paul Salsieder and one of the artists.
