Talk: Building of a Collection Focused on Community

Through the establishment of a major new African American art museum in Milwaukee’s Bronzeville neighborhood, The Bronzeville Center for the Arts (BCA) is Milwaukee’s first museum dedicated to presenting and stewarding art of the African diaspora. Curator Phoenix Brown will discuss the building of a collection focused on community, Black Arts, and creating a new space in Milwaukee’s vibrant art community. This talk traces the museum’s origins, explores BCA’s evolving collections strategy, and highlights the curatorial projects shaping its forthcoming collecting scope.
